Cairncross Diversity Team
Cairncross & Hempelmann Diversity Team

The CH& Diversity Team is comprised of staff, associates and partners who are passionate about furthering the firm’s diversity-related efforts and have a vested interest in collaborating to make that happen.

The Team focuses largely on retention of our talented employees, diversity-related firm events and other relevant initiatives. We are conscious of the need for our working environment to be a place where everyone feels respected and valued for the various contributions they make to our firm’s culture.

Within the firm, we make an effort to host regular diversity-related events that are fun, engaging and educational. Recent events include:

May 2012 – We have just launched our Diversity Passport Challenge! This program gives people a chance to get to know their coworkers better, learn more about diversity, and have some fun!

January 2012 – We challenged the firm to a food drive in January by mixing people up into teams based on which part of town they live in. We then picked a food bank in each area (Ballard Food Bank, White Center Food Bank, and the Asian Counseling and Referral Services Food Bank) to receive the donations the teams brought in. It was a heated competition with a great outcome for all!

We also celebrated the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday with a visit from members of the Total Experience Gospel Choir for our 7th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. luncheon.

September 2011 – On September 29, we held our Second Annual Multi-Cultural Potluck Lunch to get together and celebrate all of the varied cultures and backgrounds represented within our firm!

August 2011 – Lisa Stone, Executive Director of Legal Voice, joined us for a brown bag luncheon in conjunction with Women’s Equality Day and gave us an update on legal issues facing women in Washington and around the nation.

June 2011 – In recognition of LGBT Pride month, ACLU Legal Director Sarah Dunne came to the firm to shed light upon recent developments in the area of LGBT rights, laws and court cases.

May 2011 – Our Cinco de Mayo Watering Hole was much fun, with excellent food from Maya’s Mexican Restaurant, delicious libations, and a piñata.

As it was so successful last year, we again had a firm-sponsored Dim Sum lunch in the nearby International District in honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage month!

March 2011 – Diversity Team members led small group discussions centered around the movie, “Smoke Signals,” as well as delving into the topic of stereotyping in general.

We also held a wildly successful St. Patrick’s Day Watering Hole on March 17, complete with St. Patty’s Day facts, prizes, and a surprise visit from a bagpipe-playing partner!
